The "V" of Love
When a child is young, he should have a little power, few choices, and small responsibilities.
As the child grows older, a little more power can be given, a little more freedom in making choices can be given, but not without an increase in responsibilities. Choices, power, and responsibility should increase little by little as a child grows older. An upside down "V" is a household in which a child has been given too much power and too many choices too early. These children will argue with everyone, have too much self-esteem, and no humility. |
Parents' Math Tips
Numbers are everywhere! Make it fun by asking your child math facts anywhere. For example, while you are driving or shopping. Our children love attention and this is a great way to give them that positive attention that will help them in school. Always start with easy facts so they are not resistant to this practice and know their limits so they will not get frustrated by you asking facts they have not learned yet.

Parents' Reading Tips
Reading a story to your child or even reading your favorite book silently on the couch in front of your child are great ways to get your child interested in reading. When they start reading, make sure to keep books on hand that are at their reading level. If you are unsure, just ask their teacher. When their teacher assigns a new story to read, make sure to read it with them. Take turns reading. They do not have to do all the reading to benefit from it.
